St. Thomas (STT) to Cruz Bay, St. John
St. John has no commercial airport. A group heading to Valhalla in Catherineberg flies into Cyril E. King (STT), drives to Red Hook, crosses to Cruz Bay, then takes the North Shore road up to the house.
I. Cyril E. King Airport (STT)
Every arrival for St. John starts on St. Thomas. Have the car at the airport before the plane lands, so the group is not standing in the public hall.
- Main terminal: The meet is at the arrivals greeting area, with carts for the bags.
- Private aviation: Private planes use the FBO on the field. Bags move from the ramp to the car there.

II. The drive to Red Hook
The road crosses St. Thomas from the west end to the east end. It climbs, and traffic keeps to the left. Anyone who gets carsick should sort that before the car leaves the airport.

01
STT arrivals
Commercial flights and private planes land at Cyril E. King on the west end of St. Thomas. Have the car waiting. The public arrivals hall is crowded and not a place to gather a large group.
-
02
Route 30, then Route 38
The drive runs east on Veterans Drive (Route 30) through Charlotte Amalie, then Route 38 to Red Hook. About 11 miles. Plan 35 to 50 minutes when cruise ships fill the harbor.
-
03
Pillsbury Sound
Red Hook to Cruz Bay is about 4 miles of water. A car ferry takes the vehicle and the group. A water taxi takes the group in about 15 minutes, and a car on St. John meets them at the dock.

04
North Shore Road to the house
From Cruz Bay, Route 20 runs north toward Cinnamon Bay. Valhalla is above the bay, in the trees in Catherineberg. The road is narrow, steep, and driven on the left.
III. Crossing times
| Leg | Distance / Time | How you cross | What to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| STT to Red Hook | 11 miles, 35–50 min | Route 30, then Route 38 | Longer when cruise ships are in Charlotte Amalie. Drive on the left. |
| Car ferry, Red Hook to Cruz Bay | About 4 miles of water | Vehicle and passengers | Be in the staging lane before departure. A late STT landing can miss the last barge. |
| Water taxi, Red Hook to Cruz Bay | About 15 minutes | Passengers | The St. Thomas car stays behind. A taxi or rental meets the group in Cruz Bay. |
IV. Car ferry or water taxi
Pick one before the travel day. The car ferry and the water taxi leave from Red Hook and land in Cruz Bay. They do not do the same job.
- Car ferry: Love City Car Ferries takes the rental and the group. Be in the staging lane before the scheduled departure. Barges run late, and the last sailing is in the afternoon. Land at STT late and the cars can be stuck on St. Thomas for the night.
- Water taxi: Dolphin Water Taxi and Island Time Water Taxi cross in about 15 minutes. The group steps off the St. Thomas car and onto the boat. An open-air taxi or a St. John rental is waiting at the Cruz Bay dock.
V. Cruz Bay to Catherineberg
From the Cruz Bay dock, North Shore Road (Route 20) runs north toward Cinnamon Bay. The last stretch climbs into Catherineberg. The roads are narrow, unlit in places, and driven on the left. An open-air taxi or a 4WD is the usual car for that hill.
Valhalla sits in the trees above Cinnamon Bay. The beach is below the house.
The house itself is on the St. John page. Send the flight time and the headcount. Dates are not held until CTC Stays confirms the rate.
