Private Aviation Into Jackson Hole (JAC): Ramp, Curfew, and Alternates

Ramp space, the voluntary curfew, winter runway limits, and where operators land when JAC is weathered in.

Guide article

I. The FBO

There's one FBO at JAC, Jackson Hole Flight Services, and the airport runs it. Because the field sits inside the national park, ramp space is tight. Every overnight needs a PPR number, which you can get through FlightBridge or by calling (307) 733-4767. Based aircraft get hangar space first, so don't count on a hangar. Crew cars are first come, first served with a two-hour limit, and planeside rentals go through their GoRentals partnership.

Thanksgiving week, December 19 through January 3, and the big winter weekends fill first. Request your PPR as soon as your dates are set.

II. The Curfew and Fly Quiet

The airport asks every operator to avoid landing or taking off between 9:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. It's voluntary, but the airport sends a letter after each violation and publishes a quarterly Fly Quiet report that scores operators by name. The latest one calls out NetJets and Flexjet on curfew compliance. If you're arriving late, plan on Idaho Falls instead.

III. Winter Performance

The runway is 6,300 feet long at about 6,450 feet of elevation. On snow, some aircraft hit weight limits on departure, so confirm fuel and payload with your operator for a February trip, not only a July one.

IV. Alternates

  • Idaho Falls (IDA): the usual weather alternate, an hour and 45 minutes from Jackson by car.
  • Driggs-Reed Memorial (DIJ): on the Idaho side of Teton Pass. It's close when the pass is open and a long way around when it isn't.
  • Bozeman (BZN) and Salt Lake City (SLC): more ramp space, but a long drive or a positioning hop.

V. On the Ground

Have your car meet the aircraft. JAC to Teton Village is 30 to 35 minutes, and JAC to town is about 20.
